Last Tuesday, November 5th, was Election Day, and I admit to being scared and nervous about the outcome. We all knew that Kamala Harris and Tim Walz were two of the weakest and most unqualified candidates to ever run for President and Vice President of the United States. President Trump should win, but would he, considering what happened in 2020? Fox News was the first to call the race at 1:47am on November 6th, followed by CNN, ABC, CBS, and NBC, who waited until 5:30am to make the announcement that President Trump had won the 2024 Election. Not only did he win the Electoral College, but he also won the popular vote, which was a huge accomplishment. The final results of the Electoral College were 312 – 226. It took a little longer to confirm that Republicans had flipped the U.S. Senate and won the House of Representatives by a slim margin. The current Minority Leader of the Senate, Mitch McConnell, decided that Party leadership would be chosen tomorrow, November 13. This decision excludes those Republican Senators who were newly elected on November 5, yet allows outgoing Senators, like Mitt Romney, to have a voice in the leadership of the Party. Secondly, the vote will be by secret ballot. Candidates for Majority Leader of the Senate are John Thune (R-SD); John Cornyn (R-TX); and Rick Scott (R-FL). The Majority Leader of the Senate has tremendous influence over President Trump’s agenda, including the pace of approval for his many appointments, so the outcome of this process is critical. At this pivotal moment in the history of our nation, when Republicans have won the White House, Senate, and House of Representatives, we must hope that, for once, all members of our Party can join forces and do what is best for our nation. Republicans convincingly won the 2024 Election – now let’s see if the House and Senate will be the catalysts for real change, or will there be Republicans who try to stand in the way of the mandate given to President Donald Trump by the American people? The election of President Donald Trump is a new beginning for America. We must all remain informed, engaged, and active in the political process, because we know the Democrats will do everything possible to undermine and damage the four years of President Trump’s term. Remain positive, be ever-vigilant, and pray for the safety of President Trump, as he moves forward at record speed to Make America Great Again. Rosie Oakley 11th District Chair |
